Dizzy Spiral

A life-size tape or chalk spiral can be a fun teaching tool for family worship time. Here are ideas to use throughout the year to connect it to Scripture:

Stop & Go

Play a listening stop and go game. The Bible teaches us to listen to our parents and pay attention to their instructions. Read: Proverbs 1:8, Exodus 20:12, Ephesians 6:2-3, Colossians 3:20, Proverbs 6:20-21.

I’m Coming!

Walk slowly from the outer ring to the inner. Say, “Closer, closer, you are coming closer to the center!” Talk about how God promised to send Jesus as the Savior, and He came on Christmas. Advent means coming and Jesus did come! That’s why we sometimes call the Christmas season Advent. God promised to come again, sometimes called the Second Coming. Jesus will return and take believers home to heaven with Him. Read: Isaiah 9:6, Luke 2:10-11; Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 1:7.

The Pull of Sin

Talk about how temptation pulls you in and once you begin to sin in an area, sometimes it is hard to say no and stop. Give an example, such as lying and needing to lie more to cover up the lies, or a bad habit like cussing. Have kids walk the spiral, thinking about how easy it is to get stuck in sin. Then remind them that Christ died to set us free from sin! Say that, with the work of God through the Holy Spirit, we can cooperate with His conviction and jump off the spiral of sin! Have fun taking turns jumping from the center (or any point on the spiral) OFF into freedom! Remind kids that Christ Jesus bought that freedom through His death and resurrection. Read: Romans 8:1-9; Joh 10:9-10; 1 Peter 5:7-9
